BRIDGEWATER – Mark Casique of Bound Brook, a Sophomore in the Computer Science program at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS), has been selected as Student of the Month for May 2024. Mark is the son of Melina and Panfilo Casique of Bound Brook.
Mark’s Computer Science instructor, Ms. Sharon Phillips, recommended him for the honor, describing him as a “hard-working student who is always willing to help out.” She added that “he collaborates well with others and is always willing to share what he learns at work about drones in the classroom.”
At SCVTHS, Mark has been on the Principal’s Honor Roll, and recently won a gold medal in the New Jersey SkillsUSA Competition for Cybersecurity. Winning at the State level qualifies him to compete at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC) in Atlanta in June. He is also a Student Ambassador, promoting the Computer Science program and SCVTHS to prospective students and helping out at various school events.
When he’s not at school or busy preparing for cybersecurity competitions, Mark enjoys hanging out with friends and taking walks. He also works at iCode, teaching robotics and computer programming to younger children.
After SCVTHS, Mark is planning on going to college to prepare for a career in computer science.
