Environmental Education Center Offers Nature Programs for All Ages in August

BASKING RIDGE, NJ – Register for interesting nature programs at the Environmental Education Center (EEC) and learn about rainbows, reptiles, and more. Programs are available for all ages at the EEC on 190 Lord Stirling Road, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. The cost of the programs ranges from $10 per parent/child pair or $6 to $7 per person. Online enrollment is open now.

Whether walking through the woods to search for critters, discovering butterflies, or experimenting with prisms, participants will enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Lord Stirling Park.

The EEC is offering the following programs for all ages:

  • Cool Critters! Sunday, Aug. 4, 3 to 4 p.m. – See cool, live critters and learn what helps these bugs and reptiles survive in nature. Register.
  • Raindrops to Rainbows, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 3 to 4 p.m. – Join this program to learn how rainbows magically appear after a rainstorm. Participants will use prisms to experiment with the color spectrum and discover the recipe for a rainbow. Register.
  • Birth of a Butterfly, Tuesday, Aug. 20, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. – Explore the lifecycle of butterflies and discover how a tiny caterpillar changes into a beautiful butterfly. This program will include a story, craft, and a field walk. Register.

The following programs are available for infants and children up to five years of age with a parent:

  • Tot Trek, Wednesday, Aug. 7, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. – Take a trek with your tot and have a sensory experience enjoying nature. Register.
  • Storytime Adventure: “Love a Bug,” Sunday, Aug. 25, 10 to 11 a.m. – Enjoy nature, animal stories, and a small adventure that includes a live critter, a short hike, games, a craft, or show and tell. Storytime Adventure offers a new topic and activity each month. Register.

About the Environmental Education Center (EEC)

The EEC is dedicated to stimulating awareness and understanding of the natural world to foster a sense of responsibility for its care and use through environmental, cultural, and recreational learning experiences. The EEC also serves trustees to preserve, maintain, and improve undeveloped and developed natural areas of Somerset County parkland.
