Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity Restores Manville Home Damaged by Hurricane Ida
Manville, NJ (December 4, 2024) – Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity restored the home of a senior homeowner in Manville, NJ that was severely damaged in Hurricane Ida. After living with a leaking roof, cut-off walls, feeble floors, and no kitchen for years, this homeowner can now look forward to a warmer, safer winter.
With generous funding support from Wells Fargo Builds and Lowes and volunteer support from Somerset County Vocational Technical High School (SCVTHS), Raritan Valley Habitat’s team replaced the roof and installed insulation, new sheetrock, a sturdy plywood subfloor, plank vinyl flooring, and a new gas stove. These repairs, along with others provided by the Greater NJ United Methodist Church, were critical to making the home safe for winter.
Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. “This story is a testament of what we can accomplish when we pull together,” says Raritan Valley Habitat Executive Director Jessica Abbott. “We are so thankful for Wells Fargo Builds and Lowes and for their commitment to helping neighbors rebuild their lives and homes, for SCVTHS for allowing us to share our mission with tomorrow’s carpenters, and to the Greater NJ United Methodist Church, who provided a washer and dryer, kitchen flooring, and furniture.”
Critical Home Repair is part of RV Habitat’s Home Safety and Repair program, which includes Brush with Kindness (small exterior clean-up and maintenance), Small Repairs (like installing sheetrock, flooring, cabinets, or windowpanes), and Critical Home Repairs (larger repairs like roof or furnace replacement). Homeowners in need of repairs should contact Kat Wilson at 908-704-0016, ext. 105, or kwilson@rvhabitat.org.
