4th-grade students at John F. Kennedy Primary School recently had a unique opportunity to learn about immigration from someone who knows it firsthand—Principal Aldo Russo.

As part of their curriculum, the students have been studying immigration, focusing on the push and pull factors that influence families to leave their home countries for new opportunities. To bring these lessons to life, Principal Russo shared his own immigration story with the class, offering students a personal perspective on the topic.

Principal Russo, who grew up in Bridgewater and attended schools in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District, spoke about his family’s journey from Italy to the United States.

The students were able to make connections between Principal Russo’s experiences and the lessons they’ve been studying about immigration, deepening their understanding of the historical and personal significance of these movements.

The students were engaged throughout the presentation and had the chance to reflect on their own family histories, making the lesson even more meaningful. Through this personal connection, they gained a greater understanding of the reasons families leave their countries in search of a better life.
