Somerset County Schools Encouraged to Take Advantage of Student Trips to Environmental Education Center

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ – The Somerset County Park Commission offers Somerset County schools a wide range of educational field trips and in-school programs facilitated by the Environmental Education Center (EEC).Through visits to the EEC facility, students can explore 500 acres of nature at Lord Striling Park and engage in hands-on learning through fields, forests, marshes, and swampy areas. In-school programs also provide an enriching classroom experience through the guidance and expertise of a Naturalist.All programs support the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Teachers can choose from the following interesting and informative topics:

  • Whose Track Is That
  • Amazing Adaptations
  • Basically Bugs
  • Sensory Sleuths
  • Pond Ecology
  • Let It Rot
  • Ecological Explorations
  • Biomimicry
  • Habitat Math

The Environmental Education Center (EEC) at Lord Stirling Park offers approximately nine miles of hiking trails, Naturalist-led programs, school field trips, fun festivals, nature-themed exhibits, facility and classroom rentals, a resource library, science and conservation research, and more.
