Every student who attends SCVTHS is enrolled as a member of this national organization that promotes career readiness and workforce development. Events during the week included guest speakers from different industries, the kick-off of a canned food drive, and a school wide giveaway that featured t-shirts printed by the school’s Graphic Communications program. In addition, Mr. Bryant Jefopoulos was named the SCVTHS SkillsUSA Mentor of the Year for his dedication to the students who compete in SkillsUSA events.
The rest of the month featured a series of “Shop Swaps” where students switched classes to see what goes on in the different programs offered by SCVTHS. Among the classes that swapped were Computer Science and Welding, Agricultural Science and Business, Entrepreneurship & Marketing (BE&M), and Cosmetology and Global Business. BE&M student Arya Gupta enjoyed the experience, saying “You don’t come to school and think you’ll do stuff like this. I’m really excited to expand my horizons and learning today.”
Another planned event, CTE Jeopardy, fell victim to the weather. The competition between students from different CTE programs, which was going to be played during assemblies, had to be canceled due to a snow day. However, the two games were sent to instructors when school resumed and students were able to play during their shop classes.
