On Thursday, February 12, 2026, Somerset County Commissioner Melonie Marano attended the Somerset County Park Commission's annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast at the Environmental Education Center in Basking Ridge. Commissioner Marano thanked volunteers for their dedication and for helping to protect Somerset County’s natural resources. “The people sitting in this room right now are the heart and soul of what makes Somerset County the number one county to live, work, play, and visit,” said Commissioner Marano.

“Our natural resources mean nothing without clean air, water, and land. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do to make our county healthy, safe, fun, and beautiful.”At the event, 11 organizations were recognized for their contributions and received their 2025 Volunteer Service Certificates.
The awards, which were presented by Somerset County Park Commissioner D.J. Hunsinger, honored the individual contributions that each organization made throughout the year. “We truly could not get everything done in this beautiful park system without our volunteers," Hunsinger said.

"Even when you’re out there doing something that seems small, it’s a huge part of what we accomplish as a whole. Thank you for being here and thank you for all you do.”The Board of County Commissioners appreciates all volunteers who generously donate their time and expertise to help enhance the quality of life in Somerset County."
