On Thursday, February 5, 2026, Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson and Commissioner Melonie Marano attended the Somerset County Business Partnership’s State of the County Breakfast, a sold‑out annual event that brings together business, education, and community leaders.

This year’s program featured updates from Deirdre Blaus of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, Michael McDonough of Raritan Valley Community College, Michelle Siekerka of the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA), and remarks from Commissioner Director Robinson.

In her address, Commissioner Director Robinson emphasized the County’s ongoing commitment to economic strength, quality of life, and responsible fiscal management.

“Collectively we work every day to not just support our business community, but we strive to make this County the best place to live, work, visit, and raise a family. And we are succeeding. A 2025 study from Niche ranked Somerset County among the top 20 counties to live in the entire country. At the same time, everything we do is against the backdrop of maintaining true fiscal restraint as evidenced by our continued AAA bond rating. Throughout 2026, we intend to continue to work towards maintaining this strong County economy while still meeting our residents where they are and continuing to provide the services they need,” said Commissioner Director Robinson.

The event once again underscored the strong collaboration between Somerset County government, local institutions, and the regional business community.
