You may have heard of restraining orders under NJ’s Prevention of Domestic Violence Act. These generally apply to cases of abuse in family, shared household, or dating situations. For people who have suffered sexual assault, stalking, or cyber harassment outside a domestic relationship, protective orders may be available under NJ’s Victim’s Assistance and Survivor Act (VASPA). Example of a real case: a victim applied to us with a Temporary Protective Order under VASPA. Our attorney assisted the client in getting a Final Protective Order.
The abuser’s sexual assaults occurred in a professional education setting, and caused significant mental health trauma and injury. The protective order helps the survivor recover the ability to attend social events and a sense of control of her life.
