Raritan Police Arrest Local Resident on Weapons Charges Following Foot Pursuit

RARITAN, N.J. – Raritan Borough Chief of Police Thomas Fisher announced the arrest of Kesanni McCreary, 22, of Raritan, in connection with a weapons offense that occurred on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

According to Chief Fisher, at approximately 1:53 p.m., a Raritan Patrol Officer observed McCreary fail to use a crosswalk on Anderson Street near Sherman Avenue. The officer attempted to stop McCreary, who then fled on foot toward Fifth Street and North Second Avenue. A brief foot pursuit ensued, and patrol officers quickly apprehended McCreary in a park located between North Second Avenue and First Avenue.

Several witnesses reported seeing McCreary discard items while running. Raritan Officers, with assistance from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office K‑9 Unit, searched the route of the pursuit and recovered a loaded Ruger handgun equipped with a large‑capacity magazine. A second large‑capacity magazine was also located in the area.

McCreary was charged with:

  • 2nd‑degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
  • Two counts of 4th‑degree Possession of a Large‑Capacity Ammunition Magazine
  • 4th‑degree Obstruction of Law

He was transported to and lodged in the Somerset County Jail, pending a Superior Court detention hearing.
