Lahaska, PA — For the fifth consecutive year, Peddler’s Village, a countryside shopping, dining, lodging, and family entertainment destination in the heart of historic Bucks County, PA, will host a major summer-long display of giant sand sculptures. Celebrating America’s 250th birthday, Sights in Sand: An American Road Trip will invite guests to experience a cross-country journey in sand. The display will showcase five magnificent sculptures created by two world-renowned master sand sculpting teams: Team Sandtastic and John Gowdy, who will be working with his wife Laura Cimador-Gowdy. The Village-wide display will open officially on June 1, though visitors are also invited to watch the sand sculptors at work starting in mid-May.
Each sculpture will be dedicated to a region of the U.S.--Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and West—and collages on each will depict representative regional sights such as the Statue of Liberty, Kennedy Space Center, Mount Rushmore, Route 66, and the Golden Gate Bridge, among others, as well as animals, architecture, and American history scenes.
During the summer-long display, guests can pick up a “Road Trip Map” from the Visitor & Event Center to begin a self-guided educational scavenger hunt. Children who complete the scavenger hunt will receive a prize. Guests 18 years or older are also invited to enter an overnight stay giveaway that includes a one-night stay at the Golden Plough Inn, the on-property inn at Peddler’s Village, breakfast for two, a $150 dining gift card, and passes to Mercer Museum as well as two history books: Hidden History of Bucks County by Jen Rogers and the Historic Sites and Bites Cookbook (from the Washington Crossing Historic Park gift shop). Each package is valued at approximately $500. One prize will be awarded each month in June, July, and August. Online entries for the giveaways through PeddlersVillage.com will also be available beginning June 1.
Sights in Sand: An American Road Trip will also include several sandboxes designed for play.
Sights in Sand: An American Road Trip is funded in part by the Bucks County Tourism Grant Program.* Sponsors of Sights in Sand include six Peddler’s Village shops: The Celtic Rose, Extra Virgin, Fox & Holly, The Lucky Cupcake Company, Nina’s Waffles and Ice Cream, and Pieces.
