On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Commissioner Elizabeth Graner joined educators, families, and school leaders for Somerset County’s Governor Educator Recognition Awards Ceremony, celebrating the dedicated professionals who teach, lead, and inspire students across the county.

This year’s 2025–2026 Somerset County Teacher of the Year honor was awarded to Kiran Masud, an English Language Arts teacher at Hillside Intermediate School in the Bridgewater‑Raritan School District.

For nearly two decades, Masud has created a classroom environment where students — affectionately known as “Masudians” — feel safe, supported, and encouraged to explore new ideas. Her approach centers on curiosity, cultural awareness, and creative problem‑solving, helping students build both academic and real‑world skills.

Masud’s extensive professional experience includes serving as an NEA Fellow, a Fulbright Scholar, and an advisor for Hillside’s Roots & Shoots program. Her work reflects a deep commitment to inclusivity and ensuring every student feels seen, valued, and empowered.
