October 10th - Raritan Patrol Officers Dispatched for Motor Vehicle Accident in area Rte 202 & First Avenue
On October 10th at 12:48 a.m. Raritan patrol officers were dispatched to the area of Route 202 and First Ave for a motor vehicle accident involving a car into a pole and wires down across the roadway.
Responding Raritan patrol officers were able to quickly shutdown both sides of Route 202 with the assistance of the Raritan Borough Fire Department, the Bridgewater Police Department and the New Jersey State Police.
On scene, Raritan officers determined that Cheryl Kouvel, 54, of Tenafly, left the travel lanes of Route 202 south and sideswiped a telephone pole on the highway near Leland Street. Kouvel proceed to strike another pole head on near the First Avenue jug handle. Kouvel also struck numerous directional signs on the highway before coming to a stop next to another telephone pole. Kouvel was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The State Department of Transportation, PSE&G and Verizon responded to the scene and Route 202 was closed for nearly 10 hours.
