SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ – Applications to join the Somerset County Youth Council are now being accepted. Students from Somerset County, in grades 7 to 12, can now apply to join the Youth Council to develop leadership skills, engage in volunteerism, and make peer-based connections through advocacy and group discussions.

“The Youth Council offers students a unique opportunity to become engaged leaders and listeners,” said Commissioner Paul M. Drake, Human Services liaison. “They develop the confidence to share their unique perspective and ideas, while also learning how to collaborate with their peers.”

Students who want to make an impact in their community through social justice, environmental issues, and education, should sign-up to share their future vision for Somerset County.

Members of the Youth Council also host a variety of community service events and activities each year.

“I have been a part of the Youth Council since 7th grade, and I am honored to see how much it has grown and evolved,” said 2023-2024 Youth Council Chairperson, Roshan Dave. “During my time on the council, I have helped organize over 50 volunteer events for youth.”

“This is my fourth year as a participating member of the council. I look forward to working together to share ideas and help make our community a positive and uplifting place,” said 2023-2024 Youth Council Secretary, Sophia Pfitzner.
