Members of the Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School (SCVTHS) Band Club spent their Friday afternoon on December 13 spreading joy to senior citizens residing in the Bridgeway Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bridgewater, NJ. Co-Presidents Margaret Kim and Vaanya Salwan were joined by Co-Vice Presidents Aarika Patel and Christopher Dugan as well as many other members of the band in the performance.
The Band played a variety of songs including group performances, solos, a quartet, and a quintet for the holiday season. Some pieces played by the band include Christmas Medleys and Carol of the Bells. President Margaret Kim led two pieces in a flute quartet entitled “Spring” and “The First Noel.” The String Quintet composed of band members Chris, Thripura, Trisha, Isabel and Elie, performed “We Wish you a Merry Christmas.”
The residents of Bridgeway were happy and many sang along to the tunes played by the band. Band Member Thripura played a Jingle Bells solo to which all of the residents sang along in joy. Another SCVTHS Club: Generations of Joy founded by Aarika Patel and Bhumija Grandhe created warm and heartfelt cards for the residents for the holiday season. The club was founded with the purpose to bring joy to senior citizens. Upon handing out the colorful and positive cards, the residents were elated and thankful.
The SCVTHS Band and club Generations of Joy wanted to thank their advisor and Spanish instructor Rafael Catalan for his support and encouragement throughout the preparation of the performance. Due to the planning and preparation of the Presidents and Vice Presidents of both clubs, this event was made possible. They look forward to arranging future performances and events and bringing joy to those in their community through music.
