BRIDGEWATER – Elie Kuan, a junior enrolled in the Academy for Health and Medical Sciences at Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School (SCVTHS), was recently named the Principal Cellist, or First Chair, for the New Jersey All-State High School Orchestra.
Ms. Kuan’s selection as Principal Cellist follows other accolades, including being named Principal Cellist for the New Jersey Music Educators Association Philharmonic Orchestra in the Central Jersey Region, and ranking second in the Regional High School Orchestra.
Her performance of the complete Haydn Cello Concerto in C major resulted in a first place finish at the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra Concerto Competition.
She was also the winner of the 2024 Bravura Youth Concerto Competition.
In addition to these accomplishments, Ms. Kuan has received numerous other accolades in competitions that included participants from throughout the United States and around the world.
Her selection as First Chair for the All-State orchestra qualifies Ms. Kuan for inclusion in the All-Eastern Honors Orchestra, an ensemble selected from the top student musicians from throughout the Northeastern United States.
