HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. – Authorities have arrested 19-year-old Dawan Jeter of Hillsborough following a reported shooting on Tuesday, November 18, near Hillsborough Centre on Route 206.

According to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, police were called to the area around 1:00 p.m. after witnesses reported shots fired and provided descriptions of both the alleged shooter and victim. Both individuals had left the scene before officers arrived.

Law enforcement quickly secured the area, established a perimeter, and began searching for the two men. Schools were placed on a secure hold, and residents were advised to use caution. A large response included the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Crime Scene Investigations Unit, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 units, and the New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit.

Investigators later located the 19-year-old victim, who was unharmed, and identified Jeter as the alleged shooter. After a search warrant for his residence returned negative, Jeter voluntarily surrendered to Hillsborough Police at approximately 5:56 p.m., without incident.

Jeter faces multiple charges, including first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and third-degree endangering another person.
