World AIDS Day emphasizes the critical role of community involvement in the fight against HIV/AIDS and highlights the importance of community-led initiatives in achieving the goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat. At this table display, learn about the causes of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), symptoms, stages, the difference between HIV and AIDS, diagnosis, treatments and prevention strategies. HIV test kits will be distributed.

HealthHike: A “Walk and Talk” on Healthy Holiday Cooking

Join an RWJUH Somerset community nutritionist and an executive chef for a discussion on how to turn your favorite holiday recipes into healthier foods with ingredient substitutions and a cooking demonstration. HealthHike walkers will take a walk around the mall as a group, log their miles, and sample cookies and other treats.

Adult Mental Health First Aid Training - Virtual
Thursday, December 11
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in adults ages 18 and older. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care as well as a 5-step action plan for how to help people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. This course includes a 2-hour online portion to be completed by December 10th as well as an instructor-led portion will be hosted on Zoom on December 11th.
Attendance at both sessions is required for certification.

Walk with the Doc
Saturday, December 13
8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Food Court at Bridgewater Commons Mall
Walk about 2 miles with RWJUH Somerset cardiologist Steven Georgeson, MD and health-minded community members.
At the end of the walk, there is a 10 to 15 minute presentation on a topic relevant to heart health and disease. Participants are encouraged to ask questions. No registration is required.
