BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Somerset County Park Commission’s Green Knoll Golf Course in Bridgewater, NJ, has been designated a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” by Audubon International. Green Knoll joins the Commission’s Neshanic Valley Golf Course as one of only 900 properties worldwide to hold this level of certification by the highly respected organization.“It is a great honor to have Green Knoll Golf Course designated a Cooperative Sanctuary, and a testament to the hard work of the men and women who take care of Somerset County’s public golf courses,” said Somerset County Commissioner Paul Drake, liaison to the Park Commission.

The Somerset County Park Commission is committed to ensuring its golf courses are maintained and operated with environmental stewardship top of mind. In addition to the Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary designation, the Commission’s golf courses have been designed as “Groundwater Guardian Green Sites” by the Groundwater Foundation, received “River Friendly” certification by the NJ Water Supply Authority, and earned Environmental Stewardship Recognition from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

“I would like to commend Mike McGill, Green Knoll Golf Course Superintendent, and his team for this accomplishment and thank the Commissioners and management team for their support during this process,” said Darrel Marcinek, CGCS, Somerset County Park Commission Director of Golf Maintenance.

The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, endorsed by the United States Golf Association, provides information and guidance to help golf courses preserve and enhance wildlife habitat and protect natural resources. Golf courses from the United States, Africa, Australia, Canada, Central America, Europe, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia have achieved certification into the program.“Green Knoll Golf Course has shown a strong commitment to its environmental program. They are to be commended for their efforts to provide a sanctuary for wildlife on the golf course property,” said Christine Kane, CEO at Audubon International.
