Somerset Regional Animal Shelter is inviting the community to embrace a unique and heartwarming celebration this year: Wolfenoot 2025. If the holiday is new to you, you’re not alone—but once you learn the story behind it, you may find yourself eagerly joining the growing circle of supporters affectionately called the “Wolfenati.”
Created in 2018 by a 7-year-old boy, Wolfenoot is a day dedicated to honoring canines and the people who show kindness to them. It’s a simple concept built around compassion, generosity, and appreciation for the animals who provide companionship, loyalty, and unconditional love. For shelters like Somerset Regional Animal Shelter (SRAS), Wolfenoot aligns perfectly with their mission.
Here are some meaningful ways SRAS encourages the community to participate:
Adopt a Pet
Welcoming a shelter animal into your home is one of the most powerful acts of kindness. Adoption gives a dog or cat a second chance and brings joy to families across the region.
Give a Gift
A fun Wolfenoot tradition involves hiding small gifts—especially for those who are kind to dogs. SRAS welcomes donations or small treats sent directly to their shelter pets or the staff who care for them daily.
Share & Connect
A simple social media post can help a homeless pet find a home. Spreading the word amplifies the shelter’s efforts and increases visibility for animals waiting to be adopted.
Donate
SRAS relies heavily on community support to fund lifesaving programs. Donations—large or small—help provide medical care, food, and safe housing for animals in need.
Feast in Honor of the Day
Wolfenoot celebrations traditionally feature roasted meat and a cake shaped like a full moon. Families are encouraged to create their own version of the holiday meal, with a nod to our canine companions.
Show Kindness
Above all, Wolfenoot is about compassion. Spending time with an animal, creating something thoughtful for someone, or donating pet food to a local pantry all uphold the spirit of the day.
Somerset Regional Animal Shelter continues to serve as a cornerstone of animal welfare in the region, and Wolfenoot offers a creative, meaningful way for residents to connect with their work.
