On Monday, December 15, 2025, Somerset County’s 4-H Agricultural Ambassadors—Sam, Sawyer, Julie, Maddy, and Megan—took part in a memorable national moment as they joined Tractor Supply Co. and the National 4-H Council at the Nasdaq opening bell ringing ceremony in New York City.

During the visit, the student ambassadors engaged in thoughtful discussions centered on agricultural business, the importance of community partnerships, and the value of investing in today’s youth. The experience offered the teens a firsthand look at how agriculture, business, and leadership intersect on a national stage. Participants described the day as both inspiring and unforgettable.

Back home, Somerset County officials, educators, and community members expressed pride in the ambassadors, recognizing the students as emerging leaders who represent the strength and future of the county’s agricultural community.

The Somerset County 4-H Agriculture Ambassadors program was established in 2024 by Somerset County 4-H Agent Melissa Bright and 4-H Program Coordinator Kristine Rappaport. The initiative was created to empower teen leaders to promote agricultural awareness and education throughout the community. Originally serving 15 youth, the program has since expanded to 25 participants and is now offered statewide across New Jersey.

The 4-H Agriculture Career Leadership Ambassadors Program supports students in grades 9 through 13, providing opportunities to plan, manage, and deliver educational workshops focused on agricultural careers and industry awareness. The program emphasizes leadership development, public speaking, and community engagement—skills reflected in the ambassadors’ participation at Nasdaq.

The opening bell ceremony stands as a milestone not only for the students involved, but also for Somerset County’s broader commitment to youth development and agricultural education.
