ICYMI - South Bound Brook Fire Investigation

SOUTH BOUND BROOK, N.J. – Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Acting Chief of County Detectives Meredith McKay and South Bound Brook Police Chief Douglas LaGrua announced an on-going investigation into a residential fire on Howard Avenue in South Bound Brook, New Jersey that occurred in the early Friday morning.

Prosecutor McDonald stated that on Friday, June 19, 2026, at approximately 3:46 a.m. South Bound Brook Fire Department and South Bound Brook Police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a residential fire on Howard Avenue in South Bound Brook, New Jersey. 

\The fire was a three-alarm fire. Fire companies from Bound Brook, Community Fire, Somerset, Somerville, East Franklin, Elizabeth Avenue, Millstone Valley, Middlesex, Finderne, Manville, Martinsville, Middlebush and Arbor Hose responded to assist South Bound Brook Fire Department in extinguishing the fire. 

Emergency medical personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Bradley Gardens Rescue Squad also responded to the scene to render aid. Officers from Bound Brook Police Department responded to the scene to assist.

Prosecutor McDonald stated that detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Fire Investigation Unit responded to assist South Bound Brook Police and Fire Officials in conducting an investigation. The fire investigation remains open, and the origin and cause of the fire is still under investigation. One resident of the home was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained from the fire. A second possible resident remains unaccounted for at this time. One firefighter sustained minor injuries, was transported to an area hospital and has since been released. Neighboring houses on Howard Avenue sustained minor exterior damage.
