Powering Ahead for Somerset County
The 12-month EV study, titled Powering Ahead for Somerset County, is funded by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) Subregional Studies Program. The County’s goal is to develop a roadmap for converting County vehicles to electric power, identify and evaluate secondary EV charging corridors, and pinpoint public charging locations.
“Serving as liaison to the NJTPA Board of Trustees has shown me how powerful it is when local voices and expert insight come together on transportation initiatives,” said Commissioner Sara Sooy. “This second meeting is a chance for residents to help shape how and where we expand electric vehicle charging across Somerset County. Public feedback will help to guide real decisions that affect how people move throughout their communities every day.”

The meeting will recap earlier public outreach efforts. Attendees will be invited to review potential EV charging locations in the County, and public feedback will help narrow the list of sites for further evaluation. Secondary EV charging corridors that complement the County’s primary designated corridors will also be presented and discussed.
Next steps for the study include evaluating the electrical infrastructure needs of candidate sites, preparing cost estimates for the top three County-owned locations, developing final recommendations, and an implementation plan. A third public meeting is anticipated in the Spring of 2026. For additional inquiries and public outreach about the study, email evstudy@somersetcountynj.gov.
