New Jersey American Water Invests $1.55 Million to Upgrade Dunellen Water Mains
CAMDEN, N.J. – March 2026 – New Jersey American Water is reporting continued progress on two water infrastructure projects in Dunellen as part of its ongoing work to strengthen system reliability, support water quality and improve overall service for customers. These upgrades reflect the company’s long-term commitment to investing in the more than 190 communities it serves across the state.
“These two projects demonstrate our continued progress in modernizing water infrastructure in Dunellen,” said Mike Rinaldo, senior construction inspector, New Jersey American Water. “Replacing older mains with durable, modern materials helps reduce the risk of unexpected breaks, improves system performance and strengthens reliability for the residents and businesses that depend on this system every day.”
The work includes replacing approximately 2,450 feet of water main installed between the 1940s and 1950s along Second Street and Fairview Avenue and renewing existing customer service lines. In total, 60 existing customer service lines will be renewed and reconnected to the upgraded mains as part of the project.
New Jersey American Water's local, qualified contractor, CRJ Contracting, began work early last month and is expected to be completed by mid-May, weather permitting. Crews will continue to work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. While some traffic adjustments will be necessary, access to homes and driveways will be maintained. Traffic control will be coordinated with local officials throughout the project. Daily cleanup will occur, and where excavation is required, temporary restoration will be installed. Permanent restoration will follow once the soil has settled, about 90 days after project completion.
