Montgomery Township Teen Arrested After AI‑Generated Images of Classmates Discovered
MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 17‑year‑old Montgomery Township High School student has been taken into custody following a state police investigation into AI‑generated nude images involving multiple classmates. According to investigators, the teen used artificial intelligence tools to create explicit “deepfake” images of students and then shared them with others.
Detectives with the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Unit executed a search warrant on March 17 at a residence on Addison Avenue after receiving a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The teen was arrested shortly afterward.
Authorities say the student faces several charges, including:
- Second‑degree distribution of child sexual exploitation and abuse material
- Third‑degree possession of child sexual exploitation and abuse material
- Fourth‑degree cyber harassment
He is currently being held at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center pending a detention hearing.
Scope of the Case
An investigation by The Montgomery News reported that the teen, a Belle Mead resident and senior at the high school, created and distributed explicit AI‑generated images involving as many as 32 girls, including students at Montgomery High School.
School District Response
The Montgomery Township School District notified families that the inappropriate images were created outside school hours and off school grounds, but acknowledged the deep concern felt throughout the community. District leaders emphasized that strict privacy laws prevent them from discussing details involving minors but confirmed they are cooperating fully with law enforcement.
The district also stated that counseling and support services are being offered to any affected students, and that they are working to strengthen education around digital safety, responsible technology use, and the risks associated with artificial intelligence and social media.
Community Impact
School officials described this as a “deeply harmful” situation and urged families to speak with their children about respect, consent, online behavior, and the permanence of digital images.
