Montgomery Township, NJ - On Wednesday, April 16 local officials gathered to survey new trees planted at the Municipal Center and Library in the Skillman section of Montgomery. These plantings will enhance the landscaping of the center grounds, providing beauty, shade, erosion control, and stormwater runoff management.

Mayor Neena Singh, joined by Deputy Mayor Vincent Barragan and township staff, made celebratory remarks and particularly thanked Assemblyman Roy Freiman, a sponsor of a $75,000 state grant for the project, administered by the Department of Community Affairs.

Addressing the assemblyman, the mayor stated, “Montgomery cannot thank you enough for helping us to sustain our environment and stay healthier! Your efforts made this project a reality and will leave a lasting legacy here for generations to come!”

The Montgomery Township Tree Planting Project was sponsored by Assemblyman Freiman and Assemblyman, now Senator, Zwicker in 2023 for fiscal year 2024. Assemblywoman Mitchelle Drulis also attended the gathering. The new plantings consist of 40 shade trees, 40 ornamental trees, and 44 evergreen trees, including eastern redbuds and Virginia pines.

Assemblyman Freiman stated, “When you plant a tree you are doing it for the future. The fact that we planted this project here, where there is a library, gives us the two things we need most in life - oxygen and books! So, it is a thrill to be a part of this project. Thank you!”
