Montgomery Township leaders have appointed Douglas Herring to the Township Committee, filling the vacancy created by Vince Barragan’s resignation in June. Barragan stepped down after relocating to Princeton, leaving an unexpired term that required formal action by local officials.
Under New Jersey’s Municipal Vacancy Law, when an elected official who was nominated by a political party vacates their seat, the replacement must come from the same political party. This ensures continuity in representation and maintains the balance established by voters during the election. Following this process, Herring was selected to serve the remainder of the term.
Herring’s appointment marks a transition in township leadership as Montgomery continues its work on community priorities, planning, and local governance. Residents can expect him to participate fully in upcoming meetings and initiatives as he steps into the role.
