MONTGOMERY, N.J. - In honor of America’s 250th Anniversary, Montgomery is inviting residents to contribute to a special mosaic mural celebrating shared history, creativity and vision for the future.
With one tile per resident, each community member is asked to create a painting meaningful to them. This can be a tribute to the past, a snapshot of the present or a hopeful look into the future. When complete, these individual pieces will come together to form the Unity Tree Mosaic Mural: a visual representation of a community rooted in shared history and united in its vision forward.
“This mural is more than a piece of art – it’s a reflection of who we are as a community,” said Mayor Neena Singh. “Every tile tells a story, and when they come together, they’ll form something greater than any one of us could create alone. As we mark 250 years of our nation’s history, there’s no better way to honor that legacy than coming together to create artwork that will be enjoyed by generations to come.”
To bring this vision to life, the township has organized a series of community painting sessions, offering residents the space and supplies to create their tile. The first two sessions were held on June 23 and July 11 in the Library Program Room. Residents painted everything from scenic landscapes to local revolutionaries, including Mary Dagworthy, Ephraim Anderson, Colonel George Morgan, and Colonel Tye.
There are two more opportunities for residents to take part in this once-in-a-generation project:
Residents of all ages and artistic abilities are encouraged to participate. Once complete, the Unity Tree Mosaic Mural will be permanently displayed in the lobby of the Montgomery Municipal Center, serving as a daily reminder of the community that built it.
