The value of a substitute teacher and staff member continued to increase at the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District.
A pay increase that was approved by the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District’s Board of Education has become effective as of January 1, 2024.
For the third straight year, the pay for substitutes has risen in the school district.
The base rate of pay for substitutes that was unanimously approved by the Board of Education on December 12, 2023, resulted in the following figures.
Teacher: $155 per day
Teacher Assistant (Paraprofessionals): $155 per day
Secretary: $120 per day
Cafeteria/Play Assistant: $17 per hour
Dr. Daniel Fonder, who is the school district’s Assistant Superintendent for Personnel, spoke of the reasons behind the new pay rates.
"Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District has always been a premier place to work for both our regular Teachers and Teacher Assistants (Paraprofessionals) as well as for our substitute educators,’’ Dr. Fonder explained. “We value the contributions of our substitute educators to our schools and appreciate the positive difference they make in our students' lives. One of the ways in which the administration and Board of Education have acknowledged the value of our substitute staff is through a number of pay increases over the past three years.’’
