Hamilton Primary School students all rose for the judge on Wednesday, January 22.

John J. Burke III, the Family Presiding Judge who sits in the Somerset County Courthouse visited Hamilton on that morning and spoke to the entire 4th Grade class.

The students listed while Judge Burke discussed the four different courts—the trial courts, appellate courts, state supreme courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court—and the three different branches of government–legislative, executive, and judicial branches.

Judge Burke also reported to the students and staff who assembled in the school’s All-Purpose Room that he hears approximately 30 cases a day, 150 cases a week.

Judge Burke, who has been serving on the bench for almost eight years, spoke with the students about his career and the responsibilities of judges in upholding the law.

He also took the opportunity to answer many questions from the curious young audience, providing them with insights into the legal process and the importance of making good decisions.
