BRIDGEWATER – Dominick Elias of Bridgewater, a senior in the Mechatronics, Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing (MEAM) program at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS), has been selected as Student of the Month for February 2025. Dominick is the son of Ricardo Elias and Christine Vanderheiden.
In the nominations for this honor, Dominick’s teachers cited not only his outstanding work in the classroom, but also his kindness, humor, respect, and patience. MEAM instructor Dan Dalfonzo wrote that Dominick is his “go-to student for helping kids that need to catch up” while English instructor Lauren Heuer was impressed with how he “balances his work responsibilities with his academic responsibilities, and does so with kindness, respect, and humor.”
Dominick is active both in school and in the community. He is a member of both the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. He has volunteered for fall clean-ups at local parks and also volunteered as a poll worker for the 2024 Elections. He is a member of the school’s Dungeons & Dragons club, and enjoys creating short films as a member of the Film Club. When he is not busy with his school work or activities, Dominick enjoys listening to music and putting some of the knowledge he has gained as a MEAM student into developing 3D models that he can then print.
After graduation, Dominick is planning on pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is also looking for opportunities to learn more about his chosen field of study through apprenticeships and other on-the-job learning opportunities.
When asked about his time at SCVTHS, Dominick stated that it “has been the absolute best school I have ever been to. It has given me confidence to pursue my goals, and everybody is there to help.”
