RVCC Holocaust Institute to Offer Online Series to Commemorate Genocide Awareness Month

In commemoration of Genocide Awareness Month in April, the Raritan Valley Community College Institute of Holocaust and Genocide Studies will offer on online series of programs. The series, which is being presented in partnership with Dr. Ellen Kennedy, executive director of World Without Genocide, will run April 10, 17, 24, and May 1, all from 10-11 a.m.

Topic to be explored in the series include:

• April 10 – From Democracy to Fascism: The program explores how the Nazis reshaped the rule of law to dismantle democracy and establish total authoritarian control.

• April 17 – The Post-war Crisis: Refugees and Displacement: The session examines the lives of the individuals and families who were forced into motion, detailing the limited places they could turn for refuge and the ways in which international law transformed in response to this unprecedented human displacement.

• April 24 – Seeking Justice After WWII: The program explores how the world addressed the Holocaust through trials, restitution, memorialization, and peacebuilding, while questioning whether these efforts were truly just.

• May 1 – Challenges to Democracy Today: The session explores the risks and suggests strategies to support human rights locally and globally.
