Hike to the Historic Big Tree

Cheesequake State Park, Trailhead parking lot

Saturday, April 11, at 9 a.m. Description: In celebration of America's 250th we will go on a journey through time on a hike to the Historic Big Tree of Cheesequake State Park. This hike will be 3 miles and go over easy, flat terrain. Call (732) 566-3208 or email nicole.bendixen@dep.nj.gov for more information. Please dress for the weather. We recommend bringing water and binoculars. Age: ages 8 and up.

Great War Living History Weekend

Fort Mott State Park, Museum

18th Century Foodways

Princeton Battlefield State Park, Thomas Clarke House

Saturday, April 11, at 11 a.m. Description: Led by State Park Historian Julie Power, join us at the Thomas Clarke House for a demonstration of Colonial foodways! Experience the sights and smells of an 18th century kitchen! Learn the skills and techniques required to keep an army fed in the 18th century. Age: all ages. $5 donation requested, not required.

Somersteps: Finding Hope Farm Hike

Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites

Saturday, April 25, at 3 p.m. Description: Hike the historic bounds of "Hope Farm" from the Wallace House in Somerville to the Raritan River Greenway. Learn about the building of the Wallace House 250 years ago, the historic preservation of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage underway today and the American Revolution on the Raritan River. This 3.1-mile, flat walk takes about 1.5 hours. Wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather and bring water and snacks. Starts and ends at Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage. Age: all ages.
