Program Coordinator
Therapeutic Recreation
Description
Under the direction of the Administrator of Leisure and , is responsible for the planning and implementation of therapeutic recreation programs for children and adults with disabilities who reside in Somerset County.
The Program Coordinators of the Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Department are responsible for assisting with the provision of year-round recreation and leisure opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. Programs for youth and adults are conducted at the TR Activity Center and in the community. Programs encompass a variety of artistic, culinary, sports, fitness, and horticulture activities, as well as community outings, overnight and week-long trips, and special events. Two summer day camps are also conducted for children with learning disabilities or Asperger’s Syndrome. TR provides services to 1,500 participants and generates income of $105,000, and another $75,000 in fundraising events.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Recreation or Therapeutic Recreation or related field preferred, but at least a minimum of three years’ experience in planning, developing, and implementing recreation programs for individuals with disabilities. Possess knowledge of various disability groups. Ability to supervise staff. Must be certified in First Aid/CPR or obtain certification within six months of employment. CTRS certification is a plus. Must possess valid driver's license and the ability to perform the responsibilities. Ability to use Microsoft Office. Must work evenings and weekends as assigned or as needed. Strong communication skills required including written, expressive, and receptive.
Irrigation Technician
Warrenbrook/Green Knoll Golf Course
Description
Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, performs duties related to daily maintenance and upkeep of the irrigation and fertigation systems.
Qualifications
High school diploma and technical training with one to two years related experience preferred on irrigation pumps, heads and parts, and ability to efficiently maintain and repair system. Individual must be able to work weekends, holidays, report to work for emergency situation if necessary, and adjust work schedule as required for the efficient operation of the golf course. Valid driver’s license required.
Greensworker
Golf Maintenance
Description
Under the direction of the Superintendent, responsible for the playing condition and maintenance of the grounds and turf of the golf course including operating necessary equipment to maintain greens, tees, fairways, rough, and out of play areas, bunker maintenance, preparation of new areas for seed/sod, planting and trimming trees, and snow removal.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED and one to two years related experience and/or training preferred. Ability to work with general public. Ability to work weekends and holidays and if required, report to work for emergency situations. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Senior Maintenance Worker
East County Maintenance
Description
Under direction of the Supervisor of East County Maintenance, assists with the maintenance of year-round and seasonal recreation and park facilities, snow removal, transports and operates the portable stage and sound system, and assists with special events. Performs other related duties.
Qualifications
High school graduation, with a minimum of two years maintenance experience. Neat, clean appearance, and ability to work with the general public crucial. Ability to operate a multi-channel sound board at musical special events. Ability to work evenings and weekends, and ability to adjust work schedule as required for the efficient operation of programs and facilities. Must have or be able to obtain a valid commercial driver's license within six (6) months of employment.
Gardener
Colonial Park Gardens
Description
Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor and/or Senior Gardener, performs all garden and landscape maintenance required for the care of park ornamental plantings including trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and turf.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Horticulture or related field preferred; or at least one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Neat, clean appearance and ability to work with the general public crucial. Ability to work weekends and holidays is required. Ability to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must obtain a NJ Certified Pesticide Operator license if requested.
Maintenance Workers (2)
Lord Stirling Stable
Description
Under direction of the Foreman of Stable Maintenance, assist with maintaining the buildings, equipment, and grounds at Lord Stirling Stable. Duties include but are not limited to maintaining the indoor and outdoor rings, maintaining pastures, mowing and trimming lawns, pastures, and trails, maintaining fences and gates, assisting with repairs and construction to buildings, and snow removal. Position will also assist with the preparation of special events.
Qualifications
Ability to perform building maintenance tasks and equipment maintenance and repair. Ability to adjust work schedule to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required for the efficient operation of the stable. Ability to operate tractors, mowers, and safely transport equipment using a small trailer. Ability to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to work with the general public crucial. Must have a valid driver's license.
Stableworker
Lord Stirling Stable
Description
Under direction of the Stable Supervisors, performs duties to effectively operate an equestrian stable, including feeding and grooming of horses, care of tack, cleaning stalls, and preparation of horses and ponies for riding lessons, lead line, and pony parties.
Qualifications
Ability to perform simple maintenance tasks. Must be able to school new and young horses. Ability to adjust work schedule to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required for the proper care of the horses. Ability to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to work with the general public crucial. Must have a valid driver's license. Previous experience working with horses preferred.
PART-TIME
Part-time Stable Workers
Duties include feeding and grooming horses, care of tack, and cleaning stalls. Must be able to adjust work schedule to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. Previous experience working with horses preferred. $13/per hour
Recreation Assistant
Assist children, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities with instruction of skills in a variety of recreation activities. Duties include transporting participants to and from programs in Park Commission vans. Evening and weekend hours. Must have a valid driver’s license. Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred but not required. $13/hour + $1.00 driving differential.
