At the International Conference of Police Chaplains (ICPC) annual training held last week in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Kevin Brooks was presented the Sergeant Baron McCoy Excellence in Chaplaincy Award, presented in honor of the late Chaplain Baron McCoy of the Vineland Police Department in New Jersey. The award is given annually to recognize and honor a chaplain’s law enforcement work at the local level. Chaplain Brooks has served as Chaplain for our Agency for 19 years and leads our CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) team. He also serves as the Senior Chaplain with the Maine State Police, is the Chaplain for the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (MCJA), is the Lead Instructor for the Law Enforcement Chaplain Training Program at the MCJA, is the Assistant Director for Region 5 of the ICPC, and is an instructor for ICPC Region 5 Chaplain training. Law Enforcement Chaplains focus on the mental health and wellbeing of Officers on a daily basis. The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office is very fortunate to have Chaplain Brooks on our staff. I want to congratulate Chaplain Brooks on receiving this award. It is well deserved. Sheriff Lancaster
