Somerville NJ Environmental Commission- shares importance of trees care
This work was made possible by a grant through MetLife Insurance, and was supported by a group of MetLife volunteers and members of the Somerville EC and Borough Council. The grant helped us get approval from the town, and paid for the contractor to dig, purchase and place the new trees. Then the volunteers came in to finish the job! The trees are looking great, and will help to mitigate the impacts of inland floods like we experienced during #HurricaneIda. Trees help to filter and uptake excess water, so having more trees down by the Brook will help the local area, and provide shade and beauty for our town!! The 35 trees planted replaced trees that had to be removed. We have replaced the same species that were there originally, and we have also supplemented some Swamp Oaks closest to the Brook, as they are well adapted to wet conditions.
