Rummikub – Available Daily, 9:30 a.m. Play this fast-moving board game that requires a little bit of luck and the use of your strategic thinking skills. Playing Rummikub promotes social interaction, mental stimulation, and relaxation. Time flies while playing this game! **All levels of skill are welcome.**

Judgment Card Game – Available Daily, 1 – 2 p.m. Play this card crowd-pleasing game to challenge yourself and improve your thinking skills.

(Video) Chair Yoga – Mondays, 10 a.m. Increase bone density, and improve strength, flexibility, and balance while immersed in a relaxing class. Expect lots of gentle stretching to bring movement to joints and muscles. This class will help participants relieve stress and gain an overall sense of well-being. **This class is open to all skill levels.**

Walk With Ease Self-Guided Program (Weekly Check-In and Presentation), with Doctoral Occupational Therapy Students, Rutgers University – Mondays, 10 – 11 a.m. (June 16 – July 21). Learn proper walking techniques, safety tips, and strategies to overcome barriers to walking during this six-week, evidence-based program. Participants will practice stretching, and learn strengthening exercises, motivational strategies, and health education to promote a more active lifestyle. Also, participants will walk during the week either at the senior center or at home and then receive weekly tracking of their walking progress from the occupational therapy students. **Preregistration is required. Word Puzzles and Mad Libs – Mondays and Thursdays, 1 – 2 p.m. Join fellow game lovers to play crossword puzzles, word searches, and fill-in-the-blanks, because who doesn’t love a good puzzle to solve, unscramble and decode?

Knitting Club – Mondays, 2:30 – 4 p.m. Join fellow knitters for a fun afternoon of knitting, socializing, coffee, and more. There are benefits to knitting that go beyond crafting. Knitting is a form of self-care that stimulates mindfulness, cognition, and social interaction and provides a fulfilling way to unwind while staying active. Other benefits include boosting brain function, mental health, and creativity. **Looms and yarn will be provided. Preregistration is required. To register, call 908-369-8700.**

(Video) Take Control with Exercise – Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. Strengthen core muscles, and improve flexibility and balance while boosting stamina during this gentle exercise program for all skill levels. **Exercises can be practiced while standing or sitting.**

Bocce Club – Tuesdays, 2:30 – 4 p.m. Learn how to play bocce ball, an entertaining backyard game. There will be instructions for the rules, scoring, and field setup. Playing this game is a great way to make friends and socialize. **The club will occur if weather permits.**

Puzzle Club Led by Senior Center Clients – Wednesdays and Fridays, 1 – 2 p.m. Strike up a conversation, make new friends, and enjoy assembling puzzles with fellow senior center members. Choose from a wide variety of puzzles at the senior center.

Karaoke Club – Wednesdays, 2:30 – 4 p.m. Join fellow crooners for a fun karaoke hour! Pick your favorite song and belt out a song. Singing can reduce blood pressure, improve cognitive function, and stimulate the mind and body. **Music, lyrics, and a microphone will be provided. No experience is necessary.**

(Video) Simply Seated with Curtis Adams –Thursdays, 10 a.m. Gain strength, energy, and a positive mood by practicing chair exercises while receiving instruction from a video presentation.

(Video) Tai Chi – Fridays, 10 a.m.
Take part in this full-body wellness program and practice mind-body exercise through movements, meditation, and deep breathing.

July 1, 11 a.m. – Outdoor Games with Sandy. Enjoy an hour of fun backyard games such as Jenga, bowling, checkers, bocce ball, and more!

July 3, 11 a.m. – What’s the Scoop Game with Senior Center Clients. Guess the real or fake news stories and collect a scoop. The team with the most scoops wins.

July 3, 11 a.m. – Fourth of July Party with Janice. Get ready for a 4th of July-themed singing performance and don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes!

July 4 – The senior center is closed for Independence Day.


July 7, 11 a.m. – “Frances Perkins: Mother of the New Deal” with Carol Simon Levin.
Enjoy this portrayal of America’s first female cabinet secretary, which tells the story of the remarkable woman whose compassion, outrage, persistence, and political skills led to the most far-reaching and effective labor protection and safety net legislation ever enacted in the United States. Frances Perkins incited workplace safety standards, the elimination of child labor, a forty-hour workweek, social security for the elderly and disabled, unemployment insurance, and the minimum wage.

July 8, 11 a.m. – Painting Canvas Boards with Tammy. Bring all of your creativity to this fun craft! Trace a flip-flop stencil onto a canvas board and paint the design. Keep the painting or give it to a friend. **Preregistration is required. All supplies will be provided.**

July 9, 17, 24, and 31, 11 a.m. – Fit and Flex with Rose. Get fit while performing 30 minutes of low-impact exercise, using weights for 15 minutes, and then using resistance bands for 15 minutes. **All levels of skill are welcome.**

July 10, 10 a.m. – Somerset County Traveling Library with Noah Anderson, Somerset County Library System. Find out what the library has to offer when the Somerset County Library System visits the senior center. Browse a collection of books and check one out, return a book from any branch, register or renew a library card, or find out how to set up your phone or tablet.

July 10, 11 a.m. – “Emergency Preparedness and Register Ready” with Carolyn Solon, Somerset County Public Health and Safety. Learn emergency preparedness tips and get an overview of the Register Ready program.

July 11, 10:30 a.m. – Diabingo: Diabetes Education Bingo with Nina Raps and Mario Ernesto School of Pharmacy Students, Rutgers. Play this fun and educational game and learn about diabetes a common disease. Approximately 9% of adults in New Jersey have diabetes and 34% have prediabetes.

July 14, 11 a.m. – Starry Summer Night Craft with Karen Haake. Create a starry summer night drawing of fireworks using oil and pastels. **Preregistration is required. All supplies will be provided.**

July 15, 11 a.m. – Tapping Away Stress with Certified Emotional Freedom Techniques Practitioner Alicia Grey. Learn the technique of tapping on certain pressure points on your face and upper body to quickly and effectively lower stress. Over 100 clinical studies show that tapping can enhance one’s overall well-being and reduce anxiety and emotional pain.

July 16, 11 a.m. – Outdoor Stretching with Sandy. Relax and enjoy this stretching session while sitting and breathing in the fresh air. Stretching is the process of placing parts of the body into a position that will lengthen or elongate the muscles and soft tissue. **The class will take place only if weather permits.**

July 18, 11 a.m. – Bingo, Sponsored By Kristina Bischof, Country Arch Care Center. Partake in a friendly game of Bingo, which is more than an exciting activity; researchers have found that playing Bingo provides multiple health benefits, such as promoting socialization, strengthening hand-eye coordination, and improving concentration, listening, and short-term memory skills.

July 21, 11 a.m. – Brain Games and Mind Puzzles with Senior Center Clients. Test your critical thinking and problem-solving skills and use logic to solve these fun puzzles. **All levels of skill are welcome
