State Police Charge Man for Attempted Murder on New Jersey Turnpike
Mansfield Township, Burlington County -The New Jersey State Police have charged Brandon Rudd, 34, of South Mills, N.C., with attempted murder and weapons offenses for allegedly shooting at a person in a vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike in Mansfield Township, Burlington County.
On Thursday, October 31, 2024, at approximately 11:59 p.m., troopers from Troop “D” Moorestown Station responded to a report of a shooting incident on the New Jersey Turnpike south, milepost 48.3. Based on a preliminary investigation, Rudd’s Nissan Altima and the victim’s Cadillac Escalade were both traveling southbound on the New Jersey Turnpike. During a road-rage incident, the victim’s vehicle was shot and struck multiple times. The victim was not injured during the encounter.
Through various investigative methods, detectives from Troop “D” Moorestown Criminal Investigation Office identified a Nissan Altima registered in North Carolina and its driver, Brandon Rudd. On November 8, 2024, in a multi-agency cooperative investigation with the Camden County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) in North Carolina, Rudd was located and apprehended in South Mills, N.C. With assistance from the CCSO, search warrants were executed on Rudd’s residence and vehicles. As a result, numerous pieces of evidence were recovered, including the firearm used in the shooting and ballistics evidence that was positively matched.
Rudd was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a handgun, and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose. He is currently lodged in the Albemarle District Jail, pending extradition.
The case is being prosecuted by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
