Rutgers Master Gardeners of Somerset County's two-part Native Plant Propagation Workshop
Bridgewater, New Jersey – Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Somerset County, Somerset County Dept. of Agriculture & Natural Resources, and Rutgers Master Gardeners of Somerset County invite you to a two-part Native Plant Propagation Workshop, with sessions on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2024, and Wednesday, April 30th at the Ted Blum 4-H Center – 310 Milltown Rd, Bridgewater, NJ. No prior knowledge is required, and gardeners of all experience levels are welcome.
This event will run from 7 PM to 8:30 PM on both days. These workshops are free to attend but registration is required. Registration is for both Parts 1 and 2. The registration link can be found at: https://rutgers.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d0DbIDlnVMqlD0y. Space for this event is limited, and those interested are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
In these workshops, participants will learn about the importance of native plants, how easy it is to grow plants from seeds and incorporate them in the home landscape.
The first session is on winter sowing and includes a presentation on native plants followed by a hands-on seed-sowing activity. Everyone who attends will have the opportunity to plant native seeds in a container to take home.
The second session is on transplanting winter-sown seedlings. Participants are invited to bring back the seedlings they sowed at the January workshop to transplant from containers into pots or assist with transplanting seedlings sowed at the RMGSC Teaching Garden. Everyone who attends will have the opportunity to pot up seedlings to take home.
If you cannot make it in person, please contact us for a list of supplies needed to join virtually. Additional questions can be directed to the ANR Administrative Assistant Ashley Higgins at higgins@co.somerset.nj.us.
