Several Somerset County schools were recognized this week for their leadership in the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program, a statewide initiative that promotes safer, healthier travel for students walking or biking to school. The awards were announced at the Somerset County Association of School Administrators meeting and highlight the growing commitment across the region to student well‑being and community safety.

Schools earned these distinctions through activities such as pedestrian‑safety workshops, walk‑to‑school events, and ongoing efforts to build safer travel habits. The program encourages physical activity, reduces traffic congestion, and strengthens community awareness around student safety.

 Award Recipients

  • Gold Award — Weston Elementary, Roosevelt School, Alexander Batcho Intermediate
  • Bronze Award — Bridgewater‑Raritan High School, Hamilton Primary
  • First Step Award — Manville High School, Oak Street Elementary

These honors reflect the dedication of administrators, staff, families, and students who participate in and support SRTS programming throughout the year.

A special acknowledgment goes to RideWise and the New Jersey Department of Transportation, whose partnership and guidance help make these achievements possible.
