Raritan Business Profile: Meet Lucy, Owner of House of Blooms

Lucy: I started House of Blooms after working at various flower shops throughout college. Once I graduated, I realized I wanted to try and build my own studio instead of leaving the field and getting a 9-5 job.

Raritan Neighbors: What are some of the interesting or fun events you've had to style with florals?

Lucy: Every wedding or event we do is custom-built for the client, and I love when people want to incorporate a theme. One wedding we did was for clients who loved old books, so we incorporated them along with a variety of eclectic items for their centerpieces.

Raritan Neighbors: Can you share what are the spring /summer trends in flowers?

Lucy: The biggest trend I am seeing is a shift towards bright and bold color palettes. I think people these days want to be moved by their flowers, and in some ways enjoy being surprised by how different hues play together.

Raritan Neighbors: Can neighbors purchase flowers for their home or is it just events?

Lucy: We design flowers for all occasions! While we are well known for our wedding and event services, we also have a subscription program called Blooms for the Home, and offer retail designs for purchase online or over the phone. 

Raritan Neighbors: What music are you listening to now?

Lucy: I've been on an '80s-'90s kick! Madonna, Faith Hill, Depeche Mode, and Duran Duran have all been on rotation lately.

Raritan Neighbors: What do you like most about living or working in Raritan?

Lucy: What I like most about having my business in Raritan is how small the community is. I enjoy collaborating with local businesses like Delucia's Pizza (https://www.deluciasbrickoven.com/) and being able to provide flowers to the food pantry in town. Both of those relationships were formed because in a small town everyone talks to and knows each other, I think that's really special.

Raritan Neighbors: What's next for House of Blooms that Raritan Neighbors should know?

Lucy: We will be launching a new Bouquet Bar line in the coming months, as well as an A la Carte Wedding line. Bouquet Bars are becoming very popular as an activity for bridal showers and bachelorette parties, and we think it's a fun new trend. Our A la Carte Wedding line is being created so that people who are having intimate weddings can easily choose what they need online and save themselves some time.
