BOUND BROOK, N.J. – Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Bound Brook Police Chief Jason Gianotto announced the arrest of Steven P. Loureiro, 40, of Bound Brook, in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Sunday, December 28, 2025.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Bound Brook Police responded at approximately 1:05 p.m. to a 9‑1‑1 call reporting an unknown problem in the area of West Union Avenue. Officers spoke with a female victim who reported that after withdrawing money from a nearby ATM, she returned to her vehicle and was approached by a man armed with a black handgun. The suspect allegedly banged on her window and pointed the firearm at her while attempting to enter the vehicle. Fearing for her safety, the victim fled. The suspect then entered her vehicle and stole approximately $800 in cash, along with her wallet and personal identification. She described the man as wearing a hooded sweatshirt, black pants with white stripes, and a bandana covering his face.

Detectives determined that the suspect was operating a Subaru wagon with tinted windows and a missing hubcap. On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Bound Brook Police observed a vehicle matching that description in Bound Brook.

When a patrol officer attempted a motor vehicle stop, the driver fled, heading toward Route 287. The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.

Investigators later located the Subaru in a Piscataway parking lot. The driver, identified as Loureiro, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Bound Brook Police Department. A Superior Court search warrant executed at his residence resulted in the seizure of clothing matching the victim’s description and an imitation firearm.
Loureiro was charged with first‑degree armed robbery and second‑degree eluding.

He was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
